Playlist for Sept. 18, 2010

With a record 5 interruptions from the National Weather Service, last night’s episode was more than a little tedious to program.   Just from listening to the show, you’d think the world was coming to a hail storm end.  Imagine my surprise when I stepped out of the studio to find there was not a single drop in sight.  Thanks a bunch Emergency Alert System.

Despite the interruptions, I think the show went well.  I featured a nice little piece with Vic Ruggiero explaining how ska can still have a serious, even sad subject despite the fact that it’s happy sounding music; and I sounded off a bit on how Reel Big Fish approaches ska with a lack of respect for the roots and a lame irony that’s been tired for 12 years.

Plus, tons of new stuff, like Pama Intl live in Paris and Mayer Hawthorn’s Reggae Remix, as well as new releases from The Pinstripes, The Bullets, The Crabs Corp, The Valuables and Devil’s Brigade.  If you don’t mind hearing a ton of weather alerts mixed in to your ska, click over to KDHX.org and give it a listen.

Playlist for Aug. 8, 2010

Well kids, it was a long night, last night.  Not only did I host my usual 2 hours of Ska’s The Limit, but I also sat in for an hour of KDHX’s crucial reggae show, Positive Vibrations.  What a difference an extra hour makes, I was dead tired by the end of my third hour.  That and today is busy busy busy, so I won’t be scraping the net for every link I can find.  Isn’t it enough to just give the show a listen, anyway?

Swing on by KDHX.org for the full stream, and leave it running to catch Positive Vibes, right after Ska’s the Limit.

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on September 06, 2009

Last night’s show kicked off with some brand new Vic Ruggiero, as well as brand new Big D and The Kids Table.  Big D got a special apology from this host, right off the bat- I was under the mistaken impression that they were simply a cover band.  It turns out they’re much better than that.   Hepcat’s Earthquake and Fire went out to the people of LA.  I gave you a taste of some spaghetti western-style ska before dropping some seriously skankable Brenda Lee and other country flavored tunes.  Shortly before I fell asleep on the sound board, I put a long set of deep ska-jazz into motion, featuring Royal Roost, Da Whole Thing and The Drastics.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

If you missed it, you can stream this episode from KDHX.org for the next two weeks.
