Soul Ska and Funky Reggae have been the sounds of today, as well as the mid-60′s to the early 70′s- and that’s what last night’s episode was (mostly) about.   You heard classic Jamaican Funk from the likes of Toots, Jo Jo and The Fugitives and The Soul Tops- modern Funky Reggae from The Caroloregians, The Impalers and Westbound Train- as well as some non-JA, neo-Soul by way of Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Kings Go Forth and Sharon Jones.   Funky funky!

What?  You didn’t catch the show on Saturday?  There’s still time, catch the archived stream at kdhx.org for the next two weeks.

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on July 12, 2009

Ska’s The Limit was strictly old school, last night.  If I wasn’t spinning Jamaican oldies like, 54-46, I’m in a Jam and Rudies All Around, you were hearing ASPO, New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble and The Impalers playing in an authentic fashion. Keep your ears up for King Django’s recent return to Ska in his nostalgic trip down Avenue A.

An added feature throughout, several modern artists who’ve taken a ride on classic JA riddims- Bitty McLean, Stephanie McKay, Dave Hillyard and most recently, Roger Rivas- all add their musical destinciveness to the beats you already love.  If you missed it, last nite, head on over to KDHX.or for the online version.
