Last night I stayed clear of most every fringe style of ska and brought it back to that big ol’ trunk of musical bark, real ska.  Yeah, there was a little from the branches of rocksteady, reggae and neo-traditional, as well as one calypso side, but for the most part, the ska show was a ska show.

Also worth noting, the show finished off with a killer trad-ska DJ Mix from 100 dBs.  Credited here as simply his Winter Skank Mix, you can visit his site to learn what individual, old-school tracks comprised this mix.  And while you’re there, check out his other (non-ska) mixes, made with just 2 turntables and some FX.

As always, this episode of Ska’s The Limit will be streaming from KDHX.org for the next 2 weeks, enjoy it while it lasts.

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on June 19, 2010

Last night’s episode flowed so well, didn’t it?  Well, I was happy with it-  I started things off nice and sweet with a couple of slow and spooky numbers from Lord Kitch and Maddie Ruthless, before digging into the straight ska portion of the set.  There was new stuff from The Simmertones, The Beatdown, Dionne Bromfield and more; and the show finished up with a set of dubby ska and reggae from the likes of Scrappy, Victor Rice and The Skatalites.

If you missed the show, all is not lost- head on over to KDHX.org, where the episode will stream for the next two weeks.
