Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on June 19, 2010

Last night’s episode flowed so well, didn’t it?  Well, I was happy with it-  I started things off nice and sweet with a couple of slow and spooky numbers from Lord Kitch and Maddie Ruthless, before digging into the straight ska portion of the set.  There was new stuff from The Simmertones, The Beatdown, Dionne Bromfield and more; and the show finished up with a set of dubby ska and reggae from the likes of Scrappy, Victor Rice and The Skatalites.

If you missed the show, all is not lost- head on over to KDHX.org, where the episode will stream for the next two weeks.

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on January 03, 2010

Looking back over last night’s playlist, I’m noticing that the show was surprisingly light on the Ska.   There was an extra emphasis on mento/calypso and 80′s ska, but it looks like reggae covers dominated the set.   I’ve never been silent about my love for Mento Music (Jamaica’s answer to Calypso and the forerunner to Ska and Reggae), but I was impressed by the amount of phone calls I got in support of such an old school sound.   St. Louis, I wish you would have told me about your love of Calypso sooner.

If you missed the show, you can stream the archive from KDHX.org for the next two weeks.

Willie Williams – Armageddon Time – 100% Dynamite – Soul Jazz

——– – ——– – ——– – ——–

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on April 26, 2009

I started last night’s show with the debut of the new Ska’s The Limit Theme Song, by Matt Wixson.  Wixson also makes music under the name Babylon Party Machine, and I offer up two of his mash-ups right off the bat.  Then, after a quick overview of Symarip we got into some Cops and Robbers themed ska and reggae.  Then I finished you off, with a whole lotta aggressive dub.  And, once again, I completely forgot to mention this site on the air.  What is wrong with me?

If the playlist looks good to you, head on over to STL’s page on KDHX.org and stream it to your brain.
