Holiday’s are great time to show off some of the many X-Mas novelty songs that are plentiful in the ska genre.  I tried to keep it not-so-cheezy, but you know how that goes.

If you missed the show, you can still catch the archive at KDHX.org for the next two weeks.

Toots & The Maytals – Christmas Feeling Ska – Christmas Greetings – White

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on May 31, 2009

My voice was back for this episode, which allowed me to talk too much, once again.  What was I talking about?  Well, all the new music, that’s what.  The first hour featured brand new tracks from, Maddie Ruthless, The Easy Star All-Stars, The Bosstones, Pama Intl, Predator Dub Assassins and Westbound Train.

Plus, I spent the entire second hour hashing out a few of the sub-styles of 3rd Wave Ska.   I started by showing off some late-80′s tracks that feature a somewhat cheesy “game-show” style of ska.  Then, I played a set featuring the Dill/Asian Man style of Ska Core.  Then, I wagged my finger at a few late-90′s Ska-Punkers that squandered their opportunity to put Ska on the map, before bringing it home with a few legit Ska-Punk acts. Finally, topping it off with St. Louis’ own, The Skalars.  This was by no means a comprehensive look at the 3rd Wave, but I feel that I succesfully connected some dots between America’s post-2Tone attempts, and the higher-profile, late-90′s tsunami.  You can listen to the whole episode here.
