Back for another episode, eh?  Last night, we started off with a bit of a Jamaican Styles Clinic, where I showcased sets of Ska, Rocksteady and Early Reggae, in an attempt to educate the uninitiated.   Then we moved on to some new tracks and song debuts from The Forthrights, Mr. Symarip and The Caroloregians!  We even featured a couple of Ska-Reggae-Calypso-Hip-Hop mash ups before all was said and done.  All in all, a killer show, if I say so myself.

Last night’s Ska’s The Limit was our first night of the current KDHX Fall Pledge Drive. Sure we were hitting you up pretty hard to put your money where your ears are, and to pledge your financial support to one of this nation’s last truly independent radio stations- but that didn’t keep us from spinning heavy ska and reggae hits.

KDHX is Community Supported Radio- that means that over 60% of our budget comes from the support of our listeners. With over 6 Reggae shows, plus Ska’s The Limit, KDHX is one of the most JA friendly stations in the States.

Last night’s episode started off as a love letter, of sorts, to The Ska Parade compilation CDs from the late ’90′s.  The Ska Parade was probably the highest profile ska radio show, back in the day, and they released two excellent Skampilations that served as my introduction to the wonders of California Ska.

Of course, the first 30 minutes of the episode were plagued with technical problems, that kept me from getting to the planned playlist.  Otherwise, this would have been a nearly all-Cali episode of STL.  Once the glitches were resolved, most of the bands and/or songs from last night’s episode were featured in the aforementioned Ska Parade CDs.

The Ska Parade is no longer a radio show, per se, but it’s far from dead.  Host, Tazy Phillipz, still spins the finest ska tunes from CA and parts beyond on SP Radio One, on Live365 online radio.  We’re all big fans around here.  Be sure to check out this Rolling Stone article on The Ska Parade from ’98.
