Playlist for June 11, 2011

Crazy Big Ska Night in St. Louis, yesterday!  Hero’s of Psycho-Ska, MU330 returned home to rock St. Louis’ socks off while preparing for the big Asian Man 15th anniversary.  And in anticipation, last night’s Ska’s The Limit was feeling a little schizo too-

 

Cool dubs, including brand new stuff from Ticklah and David Bowie, Hollie Cook and Victor Rice were tempered with the heat of Ska-Punk from the likes of Bomb Town, Against All Authority and Secret Hate.  Hepcat was requested twice!  And the show finished off with a tribute to groups that influenced Sublime, like Bad Brains and Barrington Levy.

Playlist for April 24, 2011

Pledge Drive is over- a big success for sure!  I want to thank everyone who help us make it so-  Thanks!!

 

Still, I’m always glad to be done with the pitching- too much talking!  You know I’d rather stay off the mic and keep those tunes coming.  And that’s what last night was all about-  New, unreleased material from Toots and The Matals, and recent releases from The Amphetameanies and The Dropsteppers started off the show.  Then, we listened to a few cuts from Head Above Water, a new Ska and Punk response to the BP Oil disatster  before I took a back door tribute to the Ska Parade Ska Compilations of the 1990′s.  Finally, finishing up with a look at Hepcat- songs that influenced Hepcat, covers of Hepcat songs and Hepcat side projects.  A full show indeed!

Playlist for Feb. 13, 2011

Last night started off in a little post-Two Tone, contemporary UK Ska, kind-of-place-  but things quickly turned back towards the States, where we spent most of the rest of the night.  3rd wave Neo-Trad was the order of the day, with non-Hepcat tunes from Alex Desert and Greg Lee;  NY Ska from The Slackers, Stubborn All-Stars and The Checkered Cabs; and tons of STL tunes from the likes of The Skalars, Murder City Players and The Urge.

 

There was much dancing and merriment, but if you missed it all is not lost-  this episode will be archived and streaming at KDHX.org for the next two weeks.
