Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on January 03, 2010

Looking back over last night’s playlist, I’m noticing that the show was surprisingly light on the Ska.   There was an extra emphasis on mento/calypso and 80’s ska, but it looks like reggae covers dominated the set.   I’ve never been silent about my love for Mento Music (Jamaica’s answer to Calypso and the forerunner to Ska and Reggae), but I was impressed by the amount of phone calls I got in support of such an old school sound.   St. Louis, I wish you would have told me about your love of Calypso sooner.

If you missed the show, you can stream the archive from KDHX.org for the next two weeks.

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on August 30, 2009

I love brand new music- and this past week, I got a ton of it.  Brand new tracks from Pama International, The Drastics, and Deals Gone Bad found there way into my possession and into your eager ear drums.  Inspired by the new DGB side, Quiet Keys (live), I followed up the new stuff with a couple sets of acoustic ska.   I laid down some espionage-themed ska and soul before easing into some classic 2 Tone and early-era reggae- then I closed everything up with some dubby and electro ska.  If this sounds like something you might be into, I wholeheartedly recommend listening to it over at The Ska’s The Limit Page at KDHX.org
