Thanks for looking into yet another episode of Ska’s The Limit!  Last night featured some new music debuted from Toh Kay & Dan P, Matt Wixson and brand new live tracks from The Slackers.  We also checked out some rare demos from OPIV and Mephiskapheles, and briefly yet fondly remembered the early days of Hellcat Records.

I hope you enjoyed the show, but if you missed it, you’ve got two weeks to catch the archived stream over at KDHX.org…

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on May 31, 2009

My voice was back for this episode, which allowed me to talk too much, once again.  What was I talking about?  Well, all the new music, that’s what.  The first hour featured brand new tracks from, Maddie Ruthless, The Easy Star All-Stars, The Bosstones, Pama Intl, Predator Dub Assassins and Westbound Train.

Plus, I spent the entire second hour hashing out a few of the sub-styles of 3rd Wave Ska.   I started by showing off some late-80′s tracks that feature a somewhat cheesy “game-show” style of ska.  Then, I played a set featuring the Dill/Asian Man style of Ska Core.  Then, I wagged my finger at a few late-90′s Ska-Punkers that squandered their opportunity to put Ska on the map, before bringing it home with a few legit Ska-Punk acts. Finally, topping it off with St. Louis’ own, The Skalars.  This was by no means a comprehensive look at the 3rd Wave, but I feel that I succesfully connected some dots between America’s post-2Tone attempts, and the higher-profile, late-90′s tsunami.  You can listen to the whole episode here.
