Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on January 16, 2010

Here it is… the playlist for my first Ska’s The Limit in it’s new prime time slot!  Sorry to all the kids who called in requests which I wasn’t able to fill, I’ll be able to keep up with you in a couple of weeks.  Last night was your chance to get to know me and the kind of music I play.  Regular listeners from the old time slot will recognize a lot of this material, but I thought I’d give the early evening kids their first listen.

As always, KDHX.org will host streaming archives of this episode for the next two weeks.

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on January 10, 2010

Ska is back in Prime Time!  No longer in the middle of the night, St. Louis’ only ska radio show is moving to Saturday nights from 7-9PM.

I’m grateful to everyone who’s believed in me as the new host, and to all those that believe that ska music deserves to be heard in the waking hours.  I’m going to miss seeing my friends, Ital K and Empress Erica from Midnight Rockers and Mike from The Old Soul Harmony Show, but I’m also excited about my new neighbors.

On each side of the show, we got the best in Brazilian musica with Radio Rio and crucial roots reggae from Positive Vibrations.  I hope you can tune in.

As for last night’s episode, I used my final late night to play some of my least radio-friendly tunes- lots of instrumentals of the skinhead reggae and ska-jazz variety.  I’m not offering up any of my usual links, since there aren’t that many to show you, and since I’ve got to get the word out about the new time slot.  Thanks everybody!

If you missed the show, last night, you can still catch the archive at KDHX.org

Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on January 03, 2010

Looking back over last night’s playlist, I’m noticing that the show was surprisingly light on the Ska.   There was an extra emphasis on mento/calypso and 80′s ska, but it looks like reggae covers dominated the set.   I’ve never been silent about my love for Mento Music (Jamaica’s answer to Calypso and the forerunner to Ska and Reggae), but I was impressed by the amount of phone calls I got in support of such an old school sound.   St. Louis, I wish you would have told me about your love of Calypso sooner.

If you missed the show, you can stream the archive from KDHX.org for the next two weeks.

——– – ——– – ——– – ——–
