Playlist for Ska’s the Limit on June 07, 2009

Arrrrgh!  What a frustrating show it was!  Computer glitches and a general lack of preparedness conspired to nearly derail the entire show.  Ironically, a big part of the show was dedicated to boastful DJ chatting.  While the show went smooth enough during the Open Season segment, where I played every track I could find in the Open Season DJ battle-  I proved to not be a “boss dj” as the show descended into chaos.   No matter, I learned a few lessons on not trusting my technology, and having backup music close-by.  Good thing I’ve never recorded a track- claiming to be the best.

Below, you’ll find last nite’s playlist with the usual links to explore… pay close attention to the links within the Open Season segment for a little bit of history on the matter.  You can also click here to hear the online stream of the episode, if you’re into the whole morose delectation thing.

Upcoming Shows!

Hey kids-  Here’s the scoop on some ska coming to our town:

  • On Sat. June 13, Rancid will be playing Pop’s along with Rise Against.  Rancid is supposed to have an organ-heavy ska track on the new album, I can’t wait to hear it.
  • Then, on Tues. June 16, The Pinstripes and The VOID UNION will play The Gramophone.   I’m very impressed by both of these bands and I’m happy as hell to see them come through St. Louis.  Click on there names to hear some tunes on their MySpaces.
  • Lastly, on Mon. Aug 3rd, Vans Warped Tour is returning to St. Louis, and with a better line-up than I’ve seen in years.  They’ve got something for every kind of ska fan, out there.  Ska acts include Big D and the Kids Table, Less Than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto and Westbound Train.  Not to mention, Bad Religion- for those like me who remember them fondly. And I’m really curious about Angelo Moore’s Dr Madd Vibe Experiment- what could it be?

Hope to see you there!
